Dr. John Bennett joined the Ear, Nose & Throat Center of Utah in 2003, coming from Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Bennett treats pediatric and adult patients in all aspects of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Childhood troubles treated by Dr Bennett include tongue-tie in newborns, newborn ear deformities corrected using the Ear Well system, ear infections, tonsillitis, sleep disruption, sinusitis, and surgical correction of ear deformity. Adolescent and adult ENT troubles treated include deviated nasal septum, sinusitis, nasal deformity (functional, cosmetic, revision, cleft, and reconstructive rhinoplasty), tonsillitis, sleep apnea, hearing loss, ear concerns, throat concerns, and facial reconstruction after skin cancer removal.

Dr Bennett operates at IMC, St Mark’s, Primary Children’s Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital-Riverton, Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Salt Lake VA Medical Center, and the ENT Surgical Center. He is Adjunct Faculty at the University of Utah, and spends time caring for our Veterans and training ENT Residents at the VA Medical Center.

Dr Bennett grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1991. He served a General Surgery Internship at the University of Hawaii before completing his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Bennett was a Major in the United States Air Force and served at Royal Air Force Lakenheath Hospital outside Cambridge, England, for six years, serving as Chief of Otolaryngology from 1999 to 2002.

He was a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine for six years, and also assisted in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery courses in England. Dr Bennett won the US Air Force Surgeon General’s Award for Best Presentation in Otolaryngology for his anatomical research on the sense of smell. He served as an Instructor of Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support in England, Germany, and Turkey, and he was a Space Shuttle Recovery Team physician. He earned the Army Achievement Medal for humanitarian surgical work in Honduras, as well as the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal for his work in England. He then enhanced his surgical expertise by completing a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, where he served as a Fellow and an Attending physician.

Dr Bennett is double Board-certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, Member of the American Medical Association, and a Member of the Utah Medical Association.

Dr Bennett holds four patents on medical devices including the Tongue Tie Retractor, Tonsillectomy Retractor and two tonsil stone cleaning devices.

Dr Bennett has been on the ENT Center Executive Committee since 2013, was the Director of the ENT Surgical Center from 2013 -2015, and served as President of the ENT Center 2015-2017.
